  • Take a look at Destination Métiers, which is a free information and advice website about professions (Actiris) and training programmes (Bruxelles Formation). You can then make your choice and be sure which profession you’d like to work in.
  • We also recommend a visit to the website containing information on the Labour Market in Brussels. You can search by keyword, for example: tourism, HORECA, hotel, etc., and all of the possible professions relating to these words will come up. You can then click, for example, on hotel concierge and you’ll find a job description.
  • For more information on the tourism industry: we also recommend the SIEP (information service for studies and professions), which organises student expos and has an information centre in Brussels (and in Wallonia) open to the public. It also publishes very useful professional booklets: Hospitality, Sport and Leisure, Transport and Logistics, etc.

Create your online CV on this site, step by step

Here’s how to use the site step by step (this won’t take longer than 5 mins):

  1. Create your online CV: sign up by clicking the “Sign Up” button at the top of the homepage and create your account. Keep your username (your username can be your given name, a nickname, etc.), email address and password safe so you can manage your account later. When you want to go back to the site, click on “Already registered” and enter your username, email address and password
  2. Next, create your online CV by ticking the boxes and filling in the fields (your contact details, address, skills, the languages you speak, any training you’ve done plus your professional experience). You can even add a smiling photo of yourself, which is always a plus. You must complete the fields marked with a red asterisk in order to continue to the following page. For languages, you must complete the 3 fields(French, Dutch, English): indicate at least “Basic” for each of the 3 languages. Click on “Save”.
  3. On the next page: there’s a summary of the CV you’ve just created online. Here you can either amend your CV, by clicking on the button at the bottom left, or publish your CVon the site, by clicking on the button at the top or bottom right.
  4. Once you’ve published your CV, you come to your “Dashboard”, which enables you to:

– (“My CVs” tab): add another CV (REPEAT the process as many times as you like to increase your chances, choosing a different POSITION/JOB each time). Here you can amend/hide (so it’s not visible)/delete your online CV(s).

– (“Dashboard” tab): manage/look at the job adverts you’ve read recently/your favourite and recommended adverts.

– (“Preferences” tab): complete “Your Career” and “Other Information”, which will automatically generate job adverts based on the keywords you’ve indicated here.

– (“My Job Alerts” tab): here you can specify the types and categories of positions you’re looking for to limit the job adverts you receive to the one(s) you’re really after. Don’t fill in anything if you’d like to maximise the adverts you receive. SAVE your job preferences and alerts.

  1. On the following page, YOUR dashboard shows all of the data you’ve just entered: the job adverts relevant to you, your CV(s), job alerts and preferences. Here you can modify the information, add another CV, etc. At the top right, under “Account Options”, you can modify your profile, access your account or log off.

How do I write a good CV?

How to write a good CV is the question all jobseekers ask themselves.

Don’t panic! The software used on our website will offer to create one or more profiles for you in relation to tourism professions by asking you some questions and/or giving you drop-down menus to make things easier for you. We encourage you to create several profiles from the start relating to the professions that interest you.

Coming back to the question of “How do I write a good CV?”, we recommend that you tackle this question from the point of view of an employer in the tourism industry. What does an employer in the tourism industry want to know?

Firstly, keep in mind that an employer will only spend around thirty seconds on average reading your CV. So don’t write a novel, just a maximum of two A4 pages.

By doing some research on the Internet, we found a nice model CV adapted to the tourism industry: Good visual presentation, clear and without any superfluous information. This CV highlights the jobseeker’s contact details, the position/profession/department sought (very, very important and often forgotten), training, professional experience, language and computer skills and some “additional” information. Simple, clear and precise.

On the 100CV.com website, we found this interesting article. It gives some tips as well as traps to avoid when writing a CV.

In summary, do:

  • Be careful of your spelling (get a native speaker of English, French, Dutch, etc. to reread your CV)
  • Highlight your genuine skills and accomplishments
  • If you’ve had a job before, give references (names and contact details of people who can attest to your accomplishments – make sure these people won’t speak badly about you!)
  • Draw attention to what makes you different!

Don’t:

  • Lie about your training or experience, or invent anything
  • Be impersonal
  • Make spelling mistakes
  • Be imprecise
  • Be informal

How can you highlight your assets during a job interview?

What do you know how to do? What are your qualities and values? What industries suit you?

In order to “sell yourself” as best as possible during a job interview, it’s important to do some real thinking beforehand to increase your self-awareness:

  • Who are you? What are your personal and professional qualities? Your family and friends can help you recognise your strong points!
  • What are you capable of doing? Here you should describe the activities you carried out during your professional experience, internships, student jobs, leisure time or even in your daily routine. Be able to make a good list, in writing, of your skills and qualities.
  • What do you like to do? What are your preferences, motivations and sources of satisfaction? Be able to recognise what really makes you happy.
  • What do you know? Identify very clearly the knowledge acquired during your studies, any additional training and also in your professional activities.
